[...] Lastly, Mr. Shilovitsky often finds himself asking, “Where are my latest Excel files?” He says, “I’m sure you have asked this question many times. Is it the one connected to your mail? Is it the one on your laptop, or is it the one in SharePoint? When you have multiple Excels, and especially if you have multiple versions of these Excels, you will really be lost.” I would add, if you require contributions from other people, multiple people will be asking the same question about the same file. That is why it’s a good idea to move Excel online, as Mr. Shilovitsky mentions here. [...]

Thanks for you clarification about Arena. So, I'd clarify by saying they are friendly to acquire excel, but since data was acquired Excel stops to be an option to work on these Bill of Materials. So, what is not clear how they will continue to use Excel or Google Apps for calculations etc?

I would characterize Arena as "Excel friendly", in the sense that it is very easy to import an excel BOM into Arena and start to use a PLM BOM mgt capability (or export it to excel format for other uses). And I would definitely say it is "competitive" in the respect that once someone starts managing their BOM in Arena they stop doing so in their excel spreadsheet (anything else would be a data management nightmare). That said, once someone goes to Arena they don't uninstall excel, it is still on the desktop and used for the hundreds of general purpose or simple offline calculations (that is if they haven't already uninstalled excel to use google apps for free)
